Satellite imagery shows the low pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico

There is an area of cloudiness in the northwestern part of the Gulf of Mexico that has a chance of forming into a tropical storm.

While that chance may be as low as ten percent, residents along the Gulf should still keep their eyes open for the storm heading their way.

According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida the storm is likely to move northwest towards Texas within the next couple of days.

"It's expected to really hit south Texas," explained Dr. Todd Murphy, assistant professor of atmospheric science at University of Louisiana Monroe. "There's no real opportunity for it to form anything into Louisiana," he said.

According to Murphy, while the low pressure system is something to be aware of, residents of Louisiana have no reason to be alarmed.

More information on the system is available from the National Hurricane Center.
