Alternative to the Prison Pipeline

NAMI- Ruston
There will be three session throughout the Symposium.

Tuesday May 2nd, the Northeast Delta Human Services Authority is holding the Law Enforcement and Mental Health Symposium. The symposium will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Ruston Civic Center.

The Law Enforcement and Mental Health Symposium's purpose is to shed a light and look at possible solutions for the national, state, and regional problem of individuals with mental illnesses being put in jails and prisons instead of out patient care facilities. Dr. Monteic Sizer, executive director of the NEDHSA, shares that the cost of incarcerating individuals with mental illnesses is much less cost effective than providing preventative care services in communities.

Any one interested in learning more about this topic is welcome and invited to attend. Specifically law enforcement, psychologists, counselors, and primary health care workers are encouraged to come out. Registration for the symposium can be found here.
