2 Killed in Weekend Wreck in Louisiana

Louisiana State police say two people died when their car hit the rear axle of a log truck which was making a wide right turn into a driveway.

A news release says the wreck happened around 12:30 a.m. Saturday near Lettsworth in Pointe Coupee Parish, about 45 miles northwest of Baton Rouge.

Police say 35-year-old Brandon Wright and 36-year-old Erica Thomas, both of Batchelor, died at the scene. The truck driver was not hurt. Police say the log truck was heading south on Louisiana Highway 1 when it crossed the center line.

Wright's northbound Mercedes C350 hit the truck and ran off the road, hit a ditch and overturned in a canal. The crash remains under investigation. Police say charges are pending.
