Louisiana Releasing Next Month's Food Stamp Aid by March 2

Louisiana is handing out all of next month's food stamp aid by March 2. Some recipients will be receiving the assistance from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program earlier than normal.

But the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services announced Tuesday that it was adjusting the March aid schedule. That's because the agency handed out February food stamps early, doling them out in January because of the partial federal government shutdown.

The children and family services department says it's adjusting the March schedule to help close gaps for families whose February benefits may have been spent earlier than normal.

More details about the issuance of March food stamp assistance is available online . Department data shows about 840,000 people in Louisiana receive food stamps, loaded onto debit-style cards.
