NFL commissioner Roger Goodell speaks about kneeling during the National Anthem.

The NFL has been more about the National Anthem than the game itself recently. Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a memo to all 32 teams, specifying that all players and coaches quote – “should stand for the National Anthem.”  NFL analyst Mike Detellier says it’s sad team owners didn’t force the issue prior to Goodell’s memo…

Goodell says he hopes the teams and the league can quote – “move past the controversy…together with our players.”  Detellier says it’s easier said than done, especially when key players are taking part in the protests…

Detellier says President Donald Trump’s remarks about the NFL helped to keep the controversy alive and has proved to be problematic for the league…

Goodell’s memo adds he hopes for a full and open discussion on the National Anthem issue when the league meets next week in New York.
