New Orleans city officials say city hall employees evacuated the building September 2 due to a natural gas smell. Entergy and the New Orleans Fire Department ruled out a natural gas leak. The culprit is believed to be dead rats exploding in the walls of the building. The west wing of the 1st floor has been closed to the public. Offices closed include the Bureaus of Revenue and Treasury, the Office of the Registrar of Voters, and the Department of Sanitation.
Earlier this year rats were eating the marijuana in the police evidence room. “The rats eating our marijuana, they’re all high,” Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick told New Orleans City Council members.
The staff of the city did not respond to questions about rat pack.
