City of Monroe and sponsors give out Thanksgiving turkeys

(Monroe, LA) Tuesday morning, Mayor Friday Ellis and the City of Monroe handed out Thanksgiving turkeys to individuals and organizations in the City of Monroe.

This year, the City was joined by the Zeta Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, who provided additional food so that each turkey was given out with a items to create a full Thanksgiving meal.

The event was held outside the Monroe Convention Center. Cars lined up to receive a bird just in time for Thanksgiving. More than 150 turkeys were given away. This is the 19th year for the giveaway.

Mayor Ellis extends a ‘thank you’ to Mac’s Fresh Market for their contribution to today’s giveaway and to members of the Zeta Phi Omega Chapter of AKA for helping feed our community this holiday season.

Other donors were Volkert Engineering, Monroe Housing Authority, Malmay & Associates, S. E. Huey Engineering and Acadian Ambulance.
