The Monroe Symphony Orchestra is hosting "An Evening with Hitchcock and Spielberg" Saturday, March 10 at 7 p.m. in the Neville High School Auditorium.
The concert showcases music from some of Hitchcock and Spielberg's most well-known films. "Music is really the glue that pulls a movie together," says Bob Chambless, Executive Director of the Monroe Symphony Orchestra. This sentiment is reflected in both Hitchcock and Spielberg films, as both the directors had close relationships with the composers who wrote for their film soundtracks. The performance includes a montage of footage from the films featured, as well as narration by John Denison, a former local news anchor.
"You could listen to the soundtrack itself and realize what's happening in the film at the time," says Maestro Clay Courturiaux. "It creates a lot of the emotion and helps the actor." He notes the role music plays in film, stating "If you think of all of the acting in a film, the music is a part of that role, that character, as much as the person playing that role. The music is its own actor, really."
