Downtown areas sometimes struggle without a strong business base. Bill Roark is a long time commercial real estate broker. He knows what it takes to attract business and devolopment in downtown areas. Roark thinks there must be a "Uniqueness" to hook  people into using downtown areas.  KEDM Policy and a Pint: A Rebirth on the River will tackle downtown redevelopment  with an expert panel that will answer audience questions.

A renaissance is happening along the banks of the Ouachita River. Downtown Monroe and West Monroe are seeing a rejuvenation of business and development. On Tuesday, September 18, KEDM will hold an open public forum on downtown development and use.  The event will feature an expert panel to answer your questions about future plans and what is working in other areas. 

WEST MONROE – The City of West Monroe has been awarded a $1 million grant from the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) to upgrade infrastructure at the West Monroe Commercial Park near the Ike Hamilton Exposition Center.

The City of West Monroe will match the DRA grant with funds to install pipes that will improve drainage, eliminate erosion and enhance development at the West Monroe Commercial Park as well as the city-owned property along Interstate 20 known as Pointe West.

Bayou Jamb is Friday, August 24 and Saturday, August 25 at ULM Malone Stadium. The event includes football games, activities, and community involvement. 

Bayou Jamb began as a way to raise money and give back to the community. The event centers around football, but features food, activities for kids, and live music as well. Bayou Jamb is the biggest high school sports event in Louisiana.

Mosquito spraying will begin this evening around Ouachita Parish in the evening hours.  From 9:00 p.m. until midnight an airplane will traet areas currently affected by the West Nile virus. The spraying will happen in Monroe, West Monroe, Richwood, Swarts and Calhoun.

Poor weather conditions could postpone the spraying until another evening. 

Mayor Staci Albritton Mitchell is looking towards a greener future for West Monroe with new recycling programs.

During her first week, Mayor Mitchell worked on a new recycling program for West Monroe, which was approved by the City Council during the July meeting. "I just feel very compelled to give back and be part of the progress," says Mitchell.


The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana been chosen as one of the Top 200 nationwide finalists for the State Farm Neighborhood Assist grant program. If the Food Bank makes the Top 40 most voted causes, it will use the $25,000 grant to expand Senior programs to provide over 200 more low income senior citizens with a monthly box of food. The Food Bank needs the support of the entire community to get the votes it will take to win!

OPSO: Help Needed In West Monroe Burglary Case

Ouachita Sheriff’s Investigators are 

investigating the attempted burglary of Outlaw Ordinance in West Monroe that occurred during the early morning hours of July 27, 2018. 


Authorities are asking for anyone with any information regarding the identity of the suspects pictured is asked to contact the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office at 318-329-1200.


West Monroe Man Arrested In Theft Investigation

An investigation by Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Investigators into a recent theft and burglary at a trailer park on Arkansas Road in West Monroe has led to the arrest of Monty Shane Crawford, age 42 of West Monroe. Crawford is accused of taking air conditioner coils and a utility trailer loaded with aluminum windows from the trailer park.  The utility trailer has been recovered.

Crawford has been booked in OCC on one count of Felony Simple Burglary, one count of Simple Theft and one count of Illegal Possession of Stolen Things.  The investigation by OPSO is continuing.

On Monday, Acadian Ambulance was selected by the Ouachita Council On Governments to provide service for Ouachita Parish. The 6-0 vote in favor of Acadian Ambulance will mean a change of providers on Jan. 1 , 2019.
