West Monroe Police Name Community Services Coordinator

West Monroe Police
Retired Police Officer, Major James Keys, who will serve as the WMPD's new Community Services

The West Monroe Police Department is pleased to announce that Retired Police, Major James Keys will serve as the WMPD’s new Community Services Coordinator. Retired Major Keys replaced Stan Hayden who served in that position for many years before retiring.

Major Keys retired six years ago from the West Monroe Police Department where he served for 30 years. He supervised the first Street Crimes Unit and was a former SWAT Commander.

“He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, and I am looking forward to working with him again,” said West Monroe Police Chief Jeff Terrell.

In his role as Community Services Coordinator, Major Keys will build relationships within the community and lead neighborhood meetings. One of his primary duties will be to lead the Citizens Police Academy designed to provide citizens an opportunity to learn about every aspect of the West Monroe Police Department.

The new session of the Citizens Police Academy will begin on February 26. The Academy is free to the public and open to anyone 18 years or older. Classes are held once a week for 10 weeks from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the West Ouachita Senior Center at 1800 N. 7th Street in West Monroe.

Limited space is available in the Academy. For more information about the Citizens Police Academy, please email Major Keys at jkeys@westmonroe.la.gov.
