Heather Pilcher and Cyndy L. Robertson, co-authors of University of Louisiana Monroe from The Campus History Series, are hosting a book signing Saturday, February 3 on Trenton Street at 8:30 a.m.

University of Louisiana Monroe is a pictorial history book or the college from the year 1931 to present-day. "Each chapter covers a different period in our school's history," says Heather Pilcher, co-author and Special Collections librarian at the University of Louisiana Monroe. The book features close to 200 pages of photos and memories from the campus, going all the way back to the Ouachita Parish Junior College years.

Many photos are taken from the Special Collections & Archives in the ULM library, which holds historical school documents, school pride gear, and thousands of photos. The Special Collections & Archives department is currently in the process of digitizing the displays and exhibits.

University of Louisiana Monroe also includes stories from campus life over the years. One such story is about an ID from the 1964-65 school year that was found during renovations on the Masur dorms. Lost behind a bed, the ID sat waiting to be found for over 40 years. The ID has the cutout of a Tomahawk from the spring semester of the school year. When contacted, the owner says he didn't remember losing it.

The book also spotlights the changes in the campus with the "Then & Now" photos. Pilcher says her favorite is of the intersection by the Northeast Commons dorms. Both photos have a Chevy truck driving through the intersection.

The University of Louisiana Monroe book signing is Saturday, February 3 on Trenton Street starting at 8:30. All proceeds from the book will go back into the ULM library. Copies of the book are available for purchase at the signing, as well as the Arcadia Publishing website.
