Ferriday May Get New Town Hall, Fire and Police Stations

Delta Music Museum

Ferriday Mayor Gene Allen wants the town to spend $7 million to $8 million on a new municipal complex.

The complex will place the town hall and fire station on the same property as the current police station, which will also be replaced.

Allen tells The Natchez Democrat (http://bit.ly/1vSxIdY ) that the buildings have all outlived their usefulness.

Allen says the town hall was built in 1974, while the fire station was originally built in the 1950s as the town jail. The police station was formerly the home to an electrical company.

Allen says the project will be financed by loans and grants through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The mayor says he hopes to have the financing for the project in place by September.
