Pro Football Hall of Famer Johnny Robinson; Today proclaimed as Robinson Day in Monroe

The Monroe City Council will present newly elected Pro Football Hall of Famer Johnny Robinson with a proclamation at tonight’s 6 pm City Council meeting.

 

Robinson is a Monroe resident, and founder of the Johnny Robinson Boy’s Home.  He is also a former assistant football coach at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (then Northeast Louisiana University).

 

Johnny Robinson is a Louisiana native and was a star player on the 1958 LSU National Championship football team.  Professionally, he played for the Dallas Texans, which later became the Kansas City Chiefs.  His pro football career began as a running back/flanker but he was moved to defense and helped lead his team to three AFL Championships, two Super Bowl appearances, and one Super Bowl victory.  Johnny Robinson has been credited as redefining the role of the safety in modern professional football.  He professional football achievements and accolades are plentiful.

 

Robinson will be officially inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame at a ceremony held on Saturday, August 3, in Canton, Ohio.
