The City of Monroe’s 34th Annual Birthday Salute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is Thursday, January 17, 2013, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the “Jack” Howard Theater of the Monroe Civic Center Complex. This year’s theme is “Moving Forward Together!” Special music selections will be performed by the Wossman High School Choir. This year’s keynote speaker is human rights leader Rev. Dr. Ralph D. Abernathy, III, the eldest living son of civil rights leader Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Ralph David Abernathy, Sr.
