Reader’s theatre can be a very different sort of production. Actors often have scripts in hand, and costumes and sets are replaced by the imagination of the audience.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Department of Communication features The Prime Time Players in performances February 28 and March 1-2 in a narrative theatre production. The evening  develops the theme "The Things That Divide Us" with a script that brings to life the writings of Katherine Anne Porter, Grace Paley, Truman Capote and others in a series of vignettes.

Steckline
Dr. Mara Loeb and Dr. C. Turner Steckline, both assistant professors of communication at ULM, lead the troupe.

The reader's theatre style of presentation breaks down the fourth wall between actor and audience, creating a unique perspective by asking audience members to “fill in the gaps” through their own abilities to imagine what is suggested.

The Prime Time Players are a community-based theatre company whose membership is largely over the age of 50. Dedicated to fund-raising for community groups, the troupe seeks in this performance to raise community awareness of the organization and celebrate five years of performances in Spyker Theatre on the campus of ULM.

This series of performances use a concept called "barter theatre," in which attendees trade goods, food, or other items for admission to the performance. After the performance, the group will auction most of the items received. The Prime Time Players will accept anything from stools to homemade cookies. Performances are February 28, March 1, or March 2, 2013 in Spyker Theatre at 7:30 p.m.
