Dance Fusion features local soul, Broadway blockbusters | ULM Forum 12-2-11

Dance can evoke a range of emotions. From modern dance rooted in folk music to broadway blockbusters, the Univerisity of Louisiana at Monroe Dance Department presented its Fall Fusion concert Friday December 2 in Brown Auditorium.

Mullone

Assistant Professor of Dance Tina Mullone presented original works inspired by the popular musical group "Carolina Chocolate Drops." She also brought to the stage her country suite titled "Cane River," which includes three movements: "Sunrise," "Midday," and "Evening" based on her family's roots near Natchitoches, Louisiana. She says she's been inspired at how students in the ensemble adapted to the work.

Director of Dance Robin Stephens' works featured dancing excerpts from the American Broadway musicals "42nd St.," "Damn Yankees" and "Chicago." ULM's Visual and Performing Arts will mount a full production of "Chicago" in March.

 

All performers are members of the ULM Repertory Dance Ensemble.
