The combination of agriculture and business has undergone a radical change in the last century. As farms changed from small family operations to giant business conglomerates, farmers increasingly need the same business knowledge and skills as an executive at any large corporation. At the University of Louisiana at Monroe, the Agribusiness program has now moved to the College of Business Administration.

The revised program contains 30 hours of specialized AG business classes, such as agricultural marketing, agricultural finance, agricultural economics and farm management. In addition, 27 hours of traditional business courses such as business statistics, business management and marketing, and business law were added to the program to provide better prepare graduates to work in the business side of agriculture. The traditional business courses provide a solid foundation for the specialized material taught in the agriculture business classes.

With the increased amount of traditional business classes students will now receive a minor in business with this major. Also, students taking these classes will smoothly transition in to the MBA program.

The program’s director Dr. Jim Casey is happy that this transition happened as smoothly as it did.
