Faculty in the University of Louisiana at Monroe's Criminal Justice Department will be monitoring a $3 million dollar federal grant that will be used for adolescent substance abuse.
The grant provides $1 million per year over the next three years, for the development of adolescent substance abuse treatment within the state.
The grant aims to change the way that substance abuse services are delivered statewide. The goal is to encourage providers to use the latest scientific treatment models to improve the quality of care offered to adolescents.
The Faculty at ULM wants the treatment centers to shift from the current treatments, the treatments that have little to no evidence of successful cure rate, to evidence base practices. This will ensure more successfully treated adolescents compared to old practices.
The new treatment will include the family in the treatment of the adolescent. Educating the family about the substance abuse, and their adolescent has shown to higher the treatment success rate.
